GLP-1 muscle loss — how worried should we actually be?

the muscle-loss thing comes up constantly so here's my read from the body-comp substudies: yeah, some of the weight lost is lean mass — but that's true of basically all big weight loss, not something special about GLP-1s. the proportion looks broadly similar to plain diet weight loss.

the actual open question is whether lifting + enough protein protects lean mass as well on these drugs, and the controlled evidence there is thin. anyone tracking their own body comp on it?

the practical takeaway is the modifiable stuff: resistance training + protein. the GLP-1-specific controlled evidence is thin but the general weight-loss literature is pretty consistent that both help retain lean mass.

most of the scary takes skip that lean-mass loss comes with basically ALL big weight loss, not just these drugs. the real question is proportion + whether training offsets it.
