LL-37 is the only human cathelicidin antimicrobial peptide, with roles in innate immunity, antimicrobial defense, and wound healing. It is not FDA-approved as a therapeutic and has no established human efficacy randomized controlled trials; evidence is preclinical and mechanistic. It has context-dependent effects and has been implicated in both protective immunity and certain inflammatory conditions.
