LL-37: the human antimicrobial peptide, and why it is double-edged

LL-37 is the only human cathelicidin antimicrobial peptide, central to innate immunity and wound healing. What makes it scientifically interesting is also what makes it tricky: it has context-dependent effects and has been implicated in both protective immunity and certain inflammatory conditions.
That double-edged biology is exactly why casual use claims should be treated cautiously. The mechanistic and animal data are extensive, but there is no established human efficacy as a therapeutic.
