Tesamorelin is actually FDA approved (Egrifta) — for one indication

Worth stating clearly because it surprises people: tesamorelin is FDA approved, as Egrifta, to reduce excess visceral abdominal fat in HIV-associated lipodystrophy. It has phase 3 RCT support for that specific indication.

What it is not is an approved general body-composition or anti-aging drug. The approval is narrow, and extrapolating the visceral-fat result to healthy populations is not something the trials support.

The narrow-indication point is exactly what people skip when they cite the approval. Approved for HIV lipodystrophy is not approved for general body composition.
