Best practices for storing lyophilized peptides long term

What is the current consensus on storing lyophilized peptides for the long term? I keep seeing minus 20 C recommended for powder, with refrigeration once reconstituted, but I would like to understand the reasoning rather than just follow a rule.

Specifically: how much does light exposure matter, how long is reconstituted material generally considered usable, and does repeated freeze-thaw meaningfully degrade a lyophilized peptide?

Light and moisture matter more than people expect for lyophilized material, which is why amber or foil and a sealed container help. I label every vial with its first-reconstitution date so I am not guessing later.

The freeze-thaw point is underrated. Aliquoting before freezing avoids repeatedly thawing the whole batch.
